One rebate, two utility partners — which one funds it depends on how your home is heated. Here’s what it covers.
Do you qualify? Four quick checks.

How is your home heated?
- Yes: Natural gas FortisBC
- Yes: Electric BC Hydro
- Check first: Oil, tank propane or PNG Confirm first
- No: Wood Doesn’t qualify
Homes heated mainly by FortisBC natural gas are funded by FortisBC; homes heated mainly by BC Hydro electricity are funded by BC Hydro. Oil, tank propane and Pacific Northern Gas heat are also listed in the program rules, but the funding partner isn’t published, so confirm with the program before counting on a rebate; homes heated mainly by wood don’t qualify.

Is it your year‑round home?

The home must be a year-round primary residence at least 12 months old and an eligible housing type.

$100 per eligible rough opening, up to $2,000, when existing exterior windows or doors (frames included) are replaced with certified models rated U-factor 1.22 W/m²·K or lower and installed by a licensed contractor.
Is each opening a full replacement of an existing exterior window or door, frame included, between outdoors and heated space? A bay counts once; skylights don’t count. Patio and garden doors are exterior doors and fit this rule; basement windows fit it only where the basement is heated; storm doors aren’t addressed in the program rules, so confirm them first.

Is the paperwork in order?
- Yes: Apply within 6 months
- Yes: Invoice paid in full
- Yes: One claim per opening
Apply within six months of the invoice date, with the invoice paid in full; the rebate can’t exceed the paid invoice, each opening can only be claimed once, and it can’t be combined with CleanBC Energy Savings Program funding for the same upgrade.
Does your quote name each unit’s model, U-factor and certification listing? Will the paid invoice show those details, and can you apply within six months of the invoice date?

Example: R40 × 1,000 sq ft = $800
$0.02 × square feet × R-value added, up to $900, for attic insulation through the same Home Renovation Rebate Program (FortisBC funds homes heated mainly by FortisBC natural gas; BC Hydro funds homes heated mainly by BC Hydro electricity). At least R12 must be added, and the insulation must be installed by a Home Performance Contractor Network member verified to offer insulation services, following the program’s air-sealing and insulation best-practice guide. Self-installs don’t qualify. Example: adding R40 across 1,000 sq ft works out to $800, if the home and the work qualify.
